Discrete, cultured, elegant and immensely creative, design is his lifestyle. As if a tailor, the pampering, care, precision and creativity José Manuel Ferrero puts into all his projects has been unwavering for 20 years. A career inspired by his admiration for tailoring, specifically London’s famous street Savile Row and the textile industry of his native Ontinyent, as well as his passion for details and Anglo-Saxon culture, make for the perfect mix of conservatism and transgression as can be seen in the meticulous shapes, materials and textures used in his industrial design. Major industry prizes such as the GERMAN DESIGN AWARDS, IFF DESIGN AWARDS, RESTAURANT & BAR DESIGN AWARDS, ICFF NEW YORK, ADI and the award for the best NATIONAL DESIGNER in 2023 by the RBA Group magazine REVISTA INTERIORES, among others.
Who really are you?
_I’m a Valencian designer who is thoughtful, observant, restless,
emotional and an explorer.
What do you think of when you hear the word plastic?
_A large door of opportunity to be creative using new shapes
and textures.
Which is your favorite color?
_English Green.
Which Vondom item from another designer would you put in your home?
_Without a doubt various designs of “Rosinantes” by Eero Aarnio, another great iconic design by Eero that means I can chill out and play with Mr. Paul ( the baby of the house).
What do you prefer, classic or science fiction movies?
_Either as long as there is a good plot and it helps me to unwind. Sometimes I can be inspired by a new idea at the same time.
Do you have any fetish object?
_The letter H, which I have collected over many years and is a collection which is continuing to grow with the help of my friends. Also Oxford shoes and socks with coloured motifs and patterns.
What was the last thing you bought?
_An H to add to my collection which I found this week in a curiosity shop with my friends.
Do you believe in perfection?
_In perfection, no. However I believe in taking care and giving attention to detail. Perfection may come in time as you look again and modify details.
Do you have any fixation or quirky habit?
_I lock the car several times but still check it’s locked by trying the door.
What do you do when you are not designing?
_Enjoy Mr. Paul and my family.
